Wirral beaten by Burnage

A FULL league programme resumes next week but some clubs did play rearranged games last week as Burnage recorded a double over Wirral in South Lancashire/Cheshire One.

It finished 18-10 to the Lancashire outfit but would have been different had Wirral capitalised on their forward superiority.

Sefton in Division Two and St Edwards in Division Three enhanced their promotion hopes. Sefton accounted for Warrington 36-18 with Mark Tyms and Colin Pascoe registering a couple of touch downs each. Dave Stansistreet and Neil Best also breached the visiting defence.

Warrington played their part in a lively clash and secured touch downs via James Shaw, Paul Youdon and Neil Suillivan.

Luke Naylor with two tries led the way for St Edwards who finished 31-6 to the good at Prenton. Mark Jacobson, Andy Kelly and Kristian Farrell were others to go in with Prenton managing just a couple of consolation kicks.

Farrell was making a successful come back for the Saints after two years on the sidelines through injury.

Wallasey in Division Two were missing several regulars as they fell 15-8 at home to Dukinfield. They gained the only try through Keith Mahon but the visitors prevailed thanks to three penalties and two drop goals. Oldershaw lost at Oswestry 15-8.
