Twickenham hopes dashed

BIRKENHEAD School under-15s’ dreams of progressing a step nearer to Twickenham for the final of the Daily Mail National Schools Cup final bit the dust when they lost to visitors Oundle at Noctorum 34-20.

A storming second half display by Waterloo’s U14s eased them to a 43-19 win over Chester. Chester scored first and led at the break 19-12. However Waterloo rallied to pull off a comfortable victory with Matthew Van Sertima scoring two tries.

LSH, Liverpool Collegiate and Widnes all have teams in the semi-final of the Halbro Lancashire RU Colts Cup.

Widnes beat Sedgeley Park 22-6, Collegiate overcame Trafford MV 17-10 and LSH crushed Tarleton 31-10.

Fly-half Joe Ford and winger Jon Kennedy, the sons of ex-Wigan RL player Mike Ford now England’s defence coach and Sale owner Brian Kennedy respectively, have both been chosen for the England U18s squad for this season’s AER tournament to be played in Treviso, Italy, next month.
