WATERLOO have used their considerable overseas contacts to a acquire Spanish international winger Jaime Nava who is set to feature in Saturday’s home match against Cambridge.
His final position has still not been determined but probably depends on who is and who is not available among the backs as several of them are currently recovering from knocks. Nava’s arrival is of course largely due to the club’s strong links with Spain through coach Ian O’Callaghan who has done a great deal out there though it could be argued that they need one or two really powerful forwards rather than any more backs.
In almost every game this season Waterloo have moved the ball around pretty well but they tend not to get a great deal of possession and spend a lot of their time in defence.
Their second meeting with Cambridge should be extremely challenging as they lost the first one at the university town by 15-3 without managing to score a single try.
They do seem to have improved quite a lot since but they have continually suffered injuries to key forwards and almost always had to cope with relatively little possession.
It is also extremely doubtful whether star fly-half Alex Davies will be fit enough to play after suffering another knock last Saturday which means coach O’Callagham will have to think long and hard about his tactics.
Last week they dropped behind too soon and could not manage to recover before the end so it is hoped that they manage to get their act together more quickly this time round. At least they are still are just about in the top half of the table and have the undoubted potential to claim their revenge for the previous 15-3 reverse.
