Mason returns as Caldy eye win

CALDY face an interesting home clash with Darlington Mowden Park today as they bid to retain their position in the top half of the National Three North League table.

The influential Simon Mason will return at full-back after illness. Winger Ian Murray is also back in contention after a week absence.

Forwards Ben Lyon and Richard Broer face fitness tests. Richard Bradshaw is expected to miss out again as he recovers from a hamstring problem.

Birkenhead Park, with injuries biting hard, have it all to do away to Westoe in North One. Student Jon Feldman takes the hooking role. Dave Hall goes to full-back and there will be a debut in the centre for either ex-Oldershaw skipper Gavin Scott or John Moores University student John Pritchard with the one to miss out going on the bench.

Chester, at the top of North Two West, head to Winnington Park and should maintain their winning run. Skipper Sean Green and James Whitelock-Wainwright are both set to miss the rest of the season through injuries picked up last week against Brough-ton Park. Tom Weight-man takes the full-back role and Nathan Sandland-Jones will be at prop. James Farrell starts at scrum-half.

New Brighton and Leigh meet at Harts-field. The Blues have registered New Zealand winger Andy Signal and he makes his debut on the wing. He has been in the second team for most of the season.

His parents origin-ally hail from Wirral and he has had experi-ence with rugby league side Howick Hornets in New Zealand.

Stephen Dean resumes at stand-off with Alistair Child as his partner. Phil Buckley will be hooker.

New Brighton won away in the league and then lost at the same venue in the National Cup.
