Rugby Union: Waterloo 20, Cambridge 30

IF EVER a side threw a game away it was Waterloo who went down 20-30 at home to Cambridge.

It all started so well as a neat grubber through the defence by Jason Duffy created a try for Dan Loader who added a penalty to give Waterloo an 8-0 lead.

Cambridge hit back with a penalty but it was still all Waterloo until a scoring pass by Duffy was intercepted for Cambridge to over under the posts, the conversion putting them 8-10 in front.

The defence made a hash of a cross field kick gifting another converted try.

Although Matt Bradley’s try converted by Loader kept them in the game 15-17 at the interval the second half was a disaster as following a penalty Cambridge ran in two further tries as Waterloo just ‘lost the plot’.

A final try by Nicola Mazzucato in the closing minutes offered scant consolation for this hapless Waterloo performance.
