CALDY will hope that their tackling is much improved this week as they travel up the M6 to Bradford.
The two sides drew 15-15 when they met in October. The Wirral side had looked on course for victory until they let Bradford’s number eight, Sione Onesi, spring from 30 metres out for a try late on.
Bradford have been blighted by injuries all season and Onesi suffered a broken arm in the game against Fylde two weeks ago. But they have some very dangerous backs in the form of Lisiate Tafa, a former Tongan international, at centre and winger Mark Kirkby, who has played for Orrell, Leeds Tykes and Wakefield. Both have already scored nine tries each this season.
This will be Caldy’s first visit to Wagon Lane. Much like Caldy, Bradford have had an up and down season. Before Christmas they lost four games in a row and after looking like they had turned things around, they have lost another four games in a row.
Caldy will be hoping that skipper Shaun Woof shakes of his recent injury problems and returns to the side as well as lock Richard Bradshaw, who has now been sidelined for three weeks. That would allow Jake Lyon to revert to his more accustomed position in the back row.
Ian Murray scored a hat-trick for the Caldy Lions and will be hoping for a recall. Chris McGlory also had a good game for the Lions and will be eager to play some part.
Prop Jim Remfry has played two successive games for the second team and is receiving rave reviews.
