MERSEYSIDE will have little direct interest in this weekend’s round of internationals, but two of Waterloo’s best backs will be in action on behalf of Spain.
The Crosby club’s most recent arrivals – the 16 stone centre Jaine Nava and scrum half Pablo Feijoo – will both be playing for their country, but at least the outstanding fly-half Alex Davies is back in the Waterloo side for their tough trip to Blackheath today.
Scrum half Dan Loader is also poised to return, which all spells good news for Waterloo’s backs, who will be looking to improve upon recent performances.
The club have lost their last four games but coach Chris O’Callaghan will be heartened by the strength of his backs combination and will hope that an unchanged pack of forwards can give them a reasonable share of the ball.
Blackheath lie in fourth place, 12 points above Waterloo, but such has been the erratic nature of the visitors’ season that a victory is not beyond them.
LSH have no game today, which gives them time to re-group as they try and avoid relegation, while West Park have a demanding home game against Fylde.
Rob Hitchmough’s troublesome leg injury will again mean West Park will not be at full strength. First choice scrum half Phil Webster and winger Matt Williams are also ruled out along with fly half Neil Ryan. Adam Anderson will fill the scrum half berth as Park seek a welcome win.
