Widnes and Wigan lose

THERE was precious little rugby union action locally last weekend in a stop-start season.

But there is a return to league action for all the clubs on Saturday.

The campaign is now going into a crucial stage with just five match weekends remaining ahead of the play-offs.

However, there was disappointment for the three local clubs which did turn out for their re-arranged league matches last Saturday.

Widnes went under 13-5 when they visited Burnage in the South Lancashire/ Cheshire One clash while Wigan also lost when they travelled to Bowdon going down 26-3.

Mossley Hill in Division Three were on the wrong side of a 22-9 outcome at Holmes Chapel.

Aspull and Anselmians face a relegation battle in Division One this weekend.

Ruskin Park who are also in trouble look for a big performance at home to Wigan while Widnes try to quell the promotion ambitions of leaders Wilmslow.

Time is running out for Oldershaw in Division Two as they have struggled to overcome a seven points starting-penalty in the division.

They are due at Southport with promotion-chasing Sefton having a home derby with Collegiate.

St Edwards need to beat visiting Trentham in Division Three to keep the pressure on leaders Douglas.
