North lights dimmed

BIRKENHEAD Park turned in a disappointing display in North One after their fine Intermediate Cup win the previous week.

They were missing key players but it was no excuse for allowing former Rugby League player Tevita Vaikona to dictate the game for Hull.

Jon Sewell, in the back-row, and Steve Lowry at scrum-half did their best for Park, who led at the end of the first quarter but then lost their way. Alex Piercy ran in an early try for the visitors but Dave Hall landed a penalty for Park and then Gavin Scott gathered a loose ball to cross.

Hull then cut loose with tries from Cameron Gray (2) and Jeff Peek, plus the conversions by Guy Martinson. Vaikona crossed soon after the break with a Martinson try in the closing moments completing the tally.
