Play-off hopes still alive

NEW BRIGHTON kept their faint North Two West play-off hopes alive with a comfortable away victory.

They always had the measure of struggling opponents to complete a league double.

Play was never easy in the strong crossfield wind, but the Blues took control up front.

They quickly put themselves in the driving seat with two tries, converted by Stephen Dean. Then Kati Tuipulotu, after time in the sin bin, got over from a rolling maul.

Full-back Gareth Jones gained the fourth try in the third quarter and then made another for Alan Hesketh. Dean added two more goals.

Brighton chose to run the ball as much as possible or kick for territorial advantage rather than kick for goal from penalties.

They could easily have won by a much greater margin, although luckless Tyldesley fought doggedly after the break without creating any real scoring opportunities.
