Widnes 17, Aspull 3

WIDNES were far from convincing as they defeated South Lancashire/Cheshire One strugglers Aspull.

All the points came in the opening period before a second-half stalemate in deteriorating conditions.

Karl Shingler and Mark Sibson, with an 80- metre run in, crossed for Widnes. Kevin Leadbetter landed both goals and a penalty.

Aspull had to settle for a consolation kick.
