Leaders in surprise

JUNIOR clubs face a three-week gap with the next round of league matches not due until the end of the month.

Big surprise in South Lancashire/Cheshire One was the defeat of leaders Wilmslow by Wigan, 8-0 in a dogged affair, giving hope to the chasing pack.

At the other end of the scale Aspull, Anselmians and Ruskin Park all lost and battle it out to avoid relegation.

Anselmians fell to Wirral, who have amassed over 200 points in their last three outings. Saturday’s 39-10 win saw stand-off Craig Harvey secure four tries, three conversions and a penalty for a 29 points haul.

Aspull failed 17-3 at Widnes.
