WEST PARK, following this heavy defeat, remain dangerously poised just one point above the National Three North relegation zone.

With three games remaining they are certain now to be engaged in a real dogfight alongside the likes of Morley and Macclesfield.

The task away at Darlington MP was certain to be tough and it turned out to be so with the home side still eager to make the promotion play-offs at the end of the season.

The big home pack dominated possession for much of the game with the Merseysiders chasing the ball for lengthy periods.

The visitors did play with a lot of spirit and played some eye-catching rugby and no-one did better than skipper Stephen Briers, who had an outstanding game.

He scored two tries and made a third in the second half for flanker Mark Williams.

Darlington began strongly leading by 24 points before the visitors had their say. But home side were too powerful in most departments.
