Rugby Union: Dress rehearsal

THE South Lancashire/Cheshire League clubs will look forward to a return to action this Saturday after a virtual Easter blank.

Only a couple of clubs had commitments over the holiday period. Hoylake just missed out on a place in the final of the Cheshire Vase as they fell 15-10 at higher-rated Sandbach.

Plate holders Wallasey booked their final date with a hard-earned 17-15 victory over Moore who were losing for the first time in nine matches.

Wallasey will again meet Crewe and Nantwich in the final stage with the match scheduled for Winnington Park on Monday, May 5 when the Vase final between Sandbach and either Northwich or Wilmslow will also take place.

Anselmians, Aspull and Ruskin Park who are at the wrong end of the Division One table face big home clashes on Saturday with Vagabonds, Wigan and Burnage.

There is a Wallasey v Oldershaw derby in Division Two and an important St Edwards v Moore encounter in Division Three.
