Rugby Union: Northwich progress to semi-finals

HOLDERS of the Cheshire Vase, Northwich, eased their way through the semi-finals with a comfortable 25-3 victory over a strong Wilmslow side at Moss Farm.

Against opposition they look likely to be facing in North Division Two West next season, the Blacks were always in control with Australian Stacey Hosking giving a fine display of kicking to contribute more than half his side’s points after Fred Taylor had set the scene with a dashing early try.

Chairman Sam Naylor was delighted. He said: “We’ve had our setbacks this season after winning the Energy Vase at Twickenham last May, but this was a really good performance and underlined out improvement in the last few weeks.”

In the final to be played on the pitch of neighbours Winnington Park at Burrows Hill, Northwich will take on divisional rivals Sandbach on Bank Holiday Monday, May 5.
