Wallasey triumph in derby day clash

THERE were disappointing results for lowly Aspull and Ruskin Park in South Lancashire/Cheshire One League.

Aspull failed 10-0 against Wigan and Ruskin Park 30-0 at the hands of Burnage.

Wallasey were made to work hard to claim the Division Two derby against Oldershaw 17-9. Mark Hallam landed three penalties for the losers.

Sefton achieved a consolation John James try in a 5-20 defeat at Dukinfield.

Warrington saw off Ormskirk 17-9 and there were also wins for Southport, 20-5 over Collegiate, and Orrell Anvils, 15-10 at Ashton-on-Mersey.

Touch downs from Joe Fisher, Ciaran Green, Rob Johnston and Gareth Knapman plus two Knapman conversions brought Prenton a much-needed 24-18 win over Holmes Chapel in Division Three.

St Edward’s fell 10-24 against Moore with Luke Jeffreys going in and Tony Evans hitting the conversion and a penalty.

Eagle edged out Mossley Hill 10-8 and Ellesmere Port beat Newton-le-Willows 17-10 but Parkonians failed 27-7 against leaders Douglas in the Isle of Man.

Port Sunlight and Capenhurst finished 6-6 in a defence dominated Division Four clash. There were defeats for West Park Warriors 41-12 at Congleton, St Mary’s 22-5 at home to Knutsford and Merseyside Police 34-0 against visiting Linley.

Birchfield just made it 8-7 against Trafford MV in North Lancs One.
