Anselmians facing crunch Wigan test to avoid drop

THERE are just two league Saturdays left for clubs in South Lancashire/Cheshire One League.

Wilmslow and Burnage look set to fill the top two places but the relegation issue is far from decided.

Anselmians, Aspull and Ruskin Park all have ten points and everything to play for.

The picture could be clearer after Saturday when Aspull entertain Burnage, Anselmians welcome third placed Wigan and Ruskin Park have fourth-placed Sale as visitors in key matches.

Dukinfield are on course to win Division Two but the next three clubs Ormskirk Sefton and Orrell Anvils are all currently on the same points total.

Saturday’s Ormskirk v Orrell Anvils promises to be a humdinger while Sefton must win at Crewe and Nantwich.

Oldershaw will go down and will be accompanied by Collegiate.

Parkonians and Prenton occupy the bottom two places in Division Three.

Parkonians have a derby at third bottom Ellesmere Port while Prenton welcome champions Douglas.

Division Four clubs have their last official fixtures of the season.

Play-offs for second-placed clubs are scheduled for April 26.

Widnes, meanwhile, are the latest club to make a point over the lack of rugby in a stop-start season.

By the time they play Anselmians in their last game next week they will have sat out seven out of seventeen Saturdays since the turn of the year.

The RFU must surely have a re-think concerning future planning.

The Widnes Colts can look forward to finals day at Rochdale in early May.

The under-19s and the under-17s both won their weekend semi-finals against Leigh and LSH respectively.
