Waterloo coach hoping to reach revised landmark

WATERLOO welcome Westcombe Park for their first ever visit to Blundellsands with the home side looking to improve on their current 11th place in National Two.

Having been deducted two points for fielding an unregistered player, the Merseysiders need to win at least two of their final three games if they are to finish the season in the top half of the table.

Earlier ambitions of an immediate return to National One were quickly revised to a top-four finish, a position which is now also out of reach as the side is still short of the 50 points which was head coach Chris O’Callaghan’s target for the season.

O’Callaghan goes with the same pack that lost at Blaydon but in the back-line brings Chris Parrot in on the wing and Jason Duffy at centre if he comes through a fitness test before kick-off.

In National Three North West Park’s future as a National League club is hanging in the balance and could well be decided this weekend when they visit fourth-placed Leicester Lions, where defeat would almost certainly confine the Red Rocks side to North One rugby next season.

Having already lost prop Liam McLaughlin and flanker Paul Bamber to Preston Grasshoppers, coach Chris Chudleigh has now seen centre Dave

Cunliffe depart to rugby league with Rochdale Hornets, leaving resources somewhat thin.

Adam Glover comes in at centre for Cunliffe and with a doubt over openside Mark Williams with a leg injury, Danny Higham has been included in the squad.

Having been staring relegation from North One in the face there has been a flicker of a revival in fortunes at Moss Lane, where Liverpool St Helens entertain Hull.

Unexpected wins at home to Middlesbrough and away at Birkenhead Park and Altrincham Kersal have thrown the home side a lifeline.
