Rugby Union: Leicester Lions 55, West Park 20

THE Merseysiders plunged to their heaviest defeat for some time down in the Midlands, a result that is certain to see them out of the National League and relegated to North One next season.

Unfortunately, Park found the Lions in rampant mood and were no match for a team that looked better drilled, as well as more powerful and streetwise.

The home side took control from the start and, not surprisingly, scored more than 30 points before the break with the visitors recording just an Andy Soutar penalty.

The second half was a little better but Park were ravaged by injuries to the likes of winger Matt Williams and Ian Critchley with shoulder trouble.

Kicker Soutar, for the second week running, was also forced to leave the fray with a knee problem.

Paul Webster and number eight Craig Smithson went over for tries with Adam Anderson adding a conversion.

Leicester, however, continued to expose Park and the floodgates were difficult to lock.
