Rugby Union: West Park 14, Preston Grasshoppers 24

WEST PARK, already relegated to North One for next season, at least showed some pride and determination.

Park couldn't have asked for a better start against Preston in National Three North and inside the first five minutes took the lead when winger Mark Turner dashed over 50 yards to touch down.

Andy Soutar added the extras.

It took Preston half an hour to reply when lock Wayne Steel powered over. Soon after the break, some weak tackling allowed the visitors to snatch the lead when centre Oliver Moore crossed the line. A magnificent solo effort from fullback Rob, Hitchmough jinking his way through a bewildered defence with Soutar converting, restored the home lead.

In the last quarter West Park tired and allowed the visitors to score twice in the closing stages through Michael Jones and hooker Richie Sands.
