Birkenhead aim to close on high against Boro

BIRKENHEAD PARK conclude their North One programme with a home fixture against Middlesbrough at the Upper Park on Saturday.

Boro are two points behind Park in sixth but will need to win by 20 points to move ahead. Park will be keen to finish on a high in front of the former players attending the annual reunion.

Victory for Park will consolidate fifth or if Liverpool St Helens defeat Hull as well then Birkenhead will finish in fourth. As long as Park are not overtaken by Boro then it will be Birkenhead’s highest league finish since 1988.

Park are celebrating a memorable season with a full day and night of activity. First up is the primary school tag competition at 10am, the winners going through to the Wirral Mini Games finals.

At 1pm the touring Hartlepool Rovers XV take on the Park thirds.

The Park Wanderers play Waterloo at 3pm on the lower pitch in a game they must win to ensure survival in the Bateman BMW Premiership.

The Park versus Middlesbrough match kicks off on the main pitch at the same time. There will be a barbecue throughout the afternoon and in the evening the Players Awards start at 8pm.

Everyone at Park has been deeply saddened by the death of Chester’s Aled Evans who missed the Twickenham final between the teams last week following his fall from a roof.

A Park spokesman said: “We were stunned as we all believed he was on the way to recovery. It is a great tragedy and our sincere condolences go to his family and everyone at the Chester club.”

A minute’s silence will be held prior to the matches at the Upper Park on Saturday.
