Disastrous season

WINNINGTON Park completed their worst-ever season with a 41-0 thrashing at Rochdale, their 20th defeat in 22 games as they were relegation from North Two West.

Skipper Mark Patterson’s young side gave a plucky display, but there was a huge gulf in class.

Meanwhile, Park’s senior colts team have reached the semi-final of the Halbro League Bowl with a 22-5 victory over Wirral. Richard Elliott’s side have also reached the final of the Cheshire Colts Shield and are in line for the double.

Park’s committee have to decide whether to try and recruit at senior level or give their posse of bright under-18s their chance in the South Lancs/Cheshire League next September.

They are likely to adopt the latter option as the club, this season marking their centenary, remain implacably opposed to the payment of players.
