Recruits needed

NEW BRIGHTON ended the season with a 19-15 home defeat to Broughton Park in North Two West.

They finish fourth but it could and should have been so much better.

Thoughts now turn to next season and certainly the Blues will need to have more strength in depth in their squad if they are to begin the climb back up the RU ladder.

Ryan Stead, Wayne Clayton and Paul Campbell secured tries but they did not make the most of their territorial advantage.

Little light was shed on future plans at the club’s annual dinner last week.

John McGrail took the Clubman of the Year award and Chris Dale was named the Player of the Year.

Other awards: Young Player of the Year: Josh Bates; Most Improved Player: Lewis Mullen; Second XV Player of the Year: Paul Roberts; Third Team Player of the Year: Brett Williams; Young Player of the Year: Chris Stonall.

The Blues host the Wirral Floodlit Cup final on Friday when Wallasey meet Prenton, 7.30pm.

Still to come at Hartsfield is the Cheshire v Lancashire County game which is set down for Saturday, May 10.
