BIRKENHEAD PARK romped to victory over Middlesbrough to take them to fourth place in North One – their highest league position since 1988.
Park turned on the style for a past players reunion, but unfortunately the game had to be played with uncontested scrums because the visitors arrived minus a recognised hooker.
Boro struck first with a breakaway try from centre Lee Rust in the second minute but Dave Hall landed a penalty on 10 minutes before a Steve Lowry kick ahead brought a try for Stuart Crampton.
Tony Handley put Dan Palmer away for the next try on 27 minutes and in the 40th minute Chris Jones got his 32nd try of the season after a forward drive. There was still time for Njike Tchakoute to cross and the conversion by Hall made it 25-5 at the interval. After the break Andy Trotter, Gavin Scott, Handley from a solo effort, Tchakoute again and finally Trotter for a second time all breached the visiting rearguard. Three more goals by Hall gave the score a one-sided look.
Waterloo withdrew from the second team game to ensure Park’s safety in the Bateman Premiership League.
