Wallasey light up Cup

WALLASEY were able to celebrate a fifth successive final win in the Wirral Floodlit Trophy at New Brighton.

Prenton provided the opposition and despite a spirited display went down 26-15 after receiving a 10-point handicap.

Wallasey scored four tries via Keith Mahon (2), Craig Wilson and Martin Sutton. Paul Lewis managed three of the conversions.

Prenton scored one touch down through Jamie Newman as a disappointing season ended for them. They go down to South Lancashire/Cheshire Four League.

Wallasey finished in a comfortable mid table place in Division Two. Their season is not yet over for they play on Bank Holiday Monday at Winnington Park against Crewe and Nantwich in the final of the Lees Cheshire Plate.

There was disappointment for Ruskin Park at the weekend. They lost at home to Sale and will be relegated from South Lancashire/Cheshire One.

Some of the local junior clubs will be represented in the annual Caldy Sevens on Sunday. They include Wirral, Oldershaw and Merseyside Police in a 20-strong line-up.
