Cheshire’s crunch test

CHESHIRE will face a relegation showdown with Warwickshire if they fail to beat Lancashire at New Brighton on Saturday in their second match in the top group of the County Championship.

Cheshire made lost 20-13 to Yorkshire with a controversial finish which saw them denied what seemed a warranted penalty try for obstruction which brought the Yorkshire player concerned a yellow card.

But instead of a try which if converted would have levelled the scores a simple penalty was awarded.

Cheshire will have to make changes for the Lancashire clash as Manchester, who provided half of the squad against Yorkshire, are on tour.

Warwickshire seem unlikely to beat Yorkshire on Saturday and this would mean the losers of the Warwickshire v Cheshire clash on Saturday week would be demoted.
