Kenyon keeps his place

LANCASHIRE move forward into their second match in the Rugby Union County Championship today, when they are away at New Brighton to a Cheshire side which appears to be below full strength.

Realistically, they beat Warwickshire last week rather more decisively than the final score suggested, due partly to substitutions and partly to several players easing up in the last 20 minutes.

They are without two first choices today in centre Chris Brears, who is still injured, and powerful No 8 Seb Moss, who scored a spectacular try last week before receiving a knock that keeps him out.

Richard Kenyon continues in Brears’ place, while Seb Moss is replaced by Waterloo’s David York, with the latter’s team-mate Alistair Davidson coming in on the bench in place of Jon Nugent, after returning from a holiday.

Scrum half Craig Aikman, another Waterloo Old Boy, and Steve Brears from West Park are also among the replacements.

It will be a major shock if they don’t win today and set up a clash with old rivals Yorkshire next week, which should decide which county goes through to represent the North in the final at Twickenham early in June.

Lancashire: Steve Nutt (Fylde); Nicholas Royle (Fylde), Richard Kenyon (Fylde), Jason Duffy (Waterloo, captain), Oliver Brennand (Fylde); Alex Davies (Waterloo), James Dougherty (Wharfedale); Petrus Du Plessis (Sedgeley Park), Peter Ince (Waterloo), Nick Flynn (Manchester), Louis McGowan (Rotherham), Roger Banks (Fylde), David York (Waterloo), Dan Palmer (Birkenhead Park), Juan Crous (Manchester).
