Must-win fixture for New Brighton

NEW BRIGHTON should get some action on Saturday as Broughton Park provide the opposition at Hartsfield in a North Two West clash.

It is a must-win situation for the Blues if they are to retain slender hopes of making a bid for a top-two placing. They are presently six points off the top and have played a game more than most clubs. But on the brighter side they have still to meet the leading sides in their 10 games remaining.

Obviously the players will be a little bit rusty but the break has provided a good recovery opportunity.

The first of the Wirral Floodlit Cup ties last week involving Oldershaw and Wallasey was a weather casualty and no new date has yet been confirmed. The next match in the New Brighton hosted Cup is scheduled for Wednesday of next week with Ellesmere Port due to meet Prenton (7.30pm).

The other ties include Helsby v Parkonians on February 4 and Capenhurst v Port Sunlight on February 18.

The New Brighton Under-19s who figure in the North West Colts League with nine other clubs face a big challenge on Sunday with Manchester providing the opposition at Hartsfield (2pm).
