Keep Goodison old boys quiet to get the win

EVERYONE will be waiting to see how Everton react to their heart-breaking elimination from the UEFA Cup.

Fulham will be hoping it is a good time to play them after extra time and the penalty shoot-out could mean tired legs and minds.

But Everton showed at Sunderland how resilient they can be. Fulham will be hoping to keep Everton on the back foot by pushing forward, but manager David Moyes may opt for a 4-4-2 so he can accommodate the in-form Andrew Johnson, whose pace and running between defenders will pose problems for the home side.

Defence

Kasey Keller is set to continue in goal.

The much-travelled USA international has played his football in La Liga and the Bundesliga as well as the Premier League.

Quick reflexes means he is a good shot-stopper and he is a confident handler of the ball.

Aaron Hughes has plenty of experience from his time at Newcastle, including appearances in the Champions League. A product of the Newcastle Academy he has played more than 300 times.

A versatile defender who can play across the back line, his best position is in the middle. A quick player, who will organise those around him and will compete for every ball.

Paul Konchesky played in Charlton’s first team at the age of 16 and 93 days and played in the FA Cup final with West Ham.

A positive player, but is strength is not his defending but his ability to push forward and create openings for others.

Midfield

The arrival of Leon Andreasen has been an important one for Fulham.

The former Werder Bremen player is a defensive midfielder who is strong in the tackle and good in the air. Played in four European 2008 qualifiers for Denmark and gives Fulham a platform for the more attack-minded midfielders in their ranks such as Danny Murphy and Jimmy Bullard. They will push forward with Andreasen providing the insurance behind them.

Bullard is one of the Premier League’s real characters and is back playing again after long-term injury.

Showing signs of the form that tempted Fulham to sign him from Wigan. A good first touch allied to the vision to pick out a pass means he poses a real threat, especially from free-kicks.

Murphy played more than 200 games for Liverpool and is another player who can score vital goals and is a threat at set-pieces.

Manager Roy Hodgson knows Fulham need to score goals to stay in the Premier League because his team is always likely to leak them and Andreasen gives them more licence to be a bit more expansive.

Simon Davies spent five years at Tottenham before his move to Everton, where he did not seem to be the same player. However he will give Fulham width on the right, get in his crosses and can chip in with vital goals.

Attack

Brian McBride is probably one of the best headers of the ball in the Premier League.

The American international made his reputation with Preston and Everton and is always committed to the cause. Has scored 30 goals in 95 internationals, including at two World Cups. Injuries have restricted his career.

Eddie Johnson is another American international with good pace and an excellent shot.

Dangerman

JIMMY BULLARD – the man in form is a real danger.

Overall verdict

Everton have not got a result at Fulham since 1966 so an away win is long overdue – and the time is right for them to do so.
