Ian Doyle: Why Rob Andrew is Mr Teflon of English rugby union

ROB ANDREW: The Teflon Man.

How else to describe the RFU’s elite rugby director, who continues to avoid any of the blame sticking for England’s lamentable World Cup showing in New Zealand?

Martin Johnson yesterday became the latest victim of the fall-out, tendering his resignation as England coach, jumping before he was given the push when his contract expired next month.

Mike Tindall has previously been made a scapegoat, the World Cup winner scandalously fined £25,000 and jettisoned from the squad presumably on the basis he’s now a bit famous having married royalty.

Andrew, meanwhile, has reiterated he has no plans to quit. Well, why should he? It’s not like he’s employed specifically to oversee the fortunes of the senior England team and is ultimately responsible for their performances, is it?

Oh.
