Mark Lawrenson: Win at Chelsea proves Liverpool FC at last have strength in depth

Glen Johnson celebrates his goal for Liverpool FC against Chelsea

KENNY DALGLISH will have a few players knocking on his door this week at Melwood.

And he wouldn’t want it any other way.

Everybody wants to be part of a winning team, and there were a few notable absent faces when Liverpool changed their game at Chelsea on Sunday to earn a fully deserved win.

All three departments of the team worked extremely well as one, and Dalglish had clearly put a lot of thought into his team selection.

Packed with quicker players, good short passers and players with good movement, Liverpool exposed Chelsea’s high defensive line.

Given their movement, passing and organisation when not in possession, how quick they were into the tackle and the suffocation of midfield players, Liverpool made a lot of Chelsea players look ordinary.

It’ll be interesting to see how Dalglish approaches the game against Manchester City at Anfield next Sunday, but I wouldn’t put it past him to select more or less the same team.
