TWELVE months ago, Louis Saha was in the midst of a rich scoring run that saw him net eight times in just six games for Everton FC.
This season, though, Tim Howard has scored just as many goals in the Premier League as the Frenchman.
Given Saha’s lamentable performance against Blackburn at the weekend, it’s easy to see why. The only surprise was that the striker lasted until the 55th minute until being hauled off.
Saha has been phoning it in for some time. Out of contract in the summer and with talk ominously quiet over a new deal, the 33-year-old is reaching the end of the line at Goodison.
He isn’t the only one. Diniyar Bilyaletdinov’s return to Russia will be the first of what is likely to be several departures in the next two windows.
However, given Everton’s financial restraints, much may depend on whether manager David Moyes decides to cash in on any of his more prized possessions.
Goodison has become a curse this season, with only three home wins from 11 games underlining how easy it has become for visiting teams to sit tight, let Everton run out of steam and ideas, and pick up the reward of a point or three.
Not that Moyes can do much about it. The problem with the manager rotating his attacking resources is he will be right back where he started. And it seems that is where Everton are heading.
