Ian Doyle: Why Super League should be extra-special this season

PROPER rugby also returns this week with the start of the new Super League season.

When it comes to regular excitement, there are few sports to match league. Much comes from the fact the game’s rules allow for these things called tries; something union too often contrives to avoid, it being overly reliant on the say-so of the officials.

With Widnes Vikings returning to the Super League, the region will now once again be represented by three clubs.

And St Helens, in their new Langtree Park stadium, and hope to go one better having painfully lost the last five Grand Finals.

So, good luck to all the North West clubs. Well, except Wigan. Obviously.
