Mark Lawrenson: I would be surprised if Kenny Dalglish left Liverpool FC but maybe not Luis Suarez

I WOULD be extremely surprised if Kenny Dalglish walks away from the Liverpool FC job in the summer.

I can understand why some people have been calling for Dalglish to step aside after attracting such heavy criticism for his handling of the Luis Suarez affair.

Dalglish doesn’t need that. No manager needs that kind of extremely unwelcome distraction, especially concerning such a sensitive issue.

But the bottom line is Dalglish loves the job. He loves being Liverpool manager. And he has a burning desire to get them back into the UEFA Champions League.

Liverpool still need two or three players to become challengers, and my fears they would fall short this season are being realised.

Suarez, though, put Dalglish in a bad position at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

Maybe on the spur of the moment the striker decided not to shake Patrice Evra’s hand. As far as Liverpool and Dalglish were aware, Suarez was going to go through with the pre-match formality.

I thought the best thing Suarez could have done was to make an absolute meal of shaking Evra’s hand.

The bone of contention is that Suarez still clearly doesn’t think he has done anything deliberately wrong. He will never, ever be convinced otherwise.

I can understand that frustration but, by the same token, he has been charged and found guilty. The bigger and better thing would have been to go up to Evra, shake his hand and show he is bigger than this.

Instead, those involved in this whole saga with both Liverpool and Manchester United have seriously got to do some growing up.

Evra will surely look back at his gesticulating at the end of the game and say ‘sorry, I was out of order there, too’. And for Rio Ferdinand to not shake Suarez’s hand, it didn’t help matters.
