IF Chelsea’s win over Bayern Munich proves anything, it’s that some things are just meant to be.
It was unbelievable. But I don’t think Chelsea deserved to win. Bayern were the better side and created much the better chances.
Someone on ESPN told me that Didier Drogba only touched the ball six times inside the first 90 minutes.
If that’s true, it is incredible. But at least he made his touches count.
Through the semi-final and the final, Chelsea have probably won the European Cup by having less of the ball than any other previous team, with the possible exception of Steaua Bucharest in 1986.
You have to applaud Roberto di Matteo.
He knew what he wanted his team do, he got the shape right and his players did the job. They had to ride their luck, though.
I was speaking to some Chelsea fans after the game and virtually to a man they said they knew they didn’t play well and they knew Barcelona could easily have beaten them in the semi.
But they didn’t. And now Chelsea are European Champions.
