Ian Doyle: No fowl play from eggs-perts

REMEMBER Paul the Octopus?

He was the Weymouth-born German-based eight-legged wonder who found fame with his correct predictions for the 2010 World Cup.

Paul, sadly, is no longer with us, having died shortly afterwards, much to the relief of Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad who accused the octopus of spreading “western propaganda and superstition”.

Nevertheless, the invertebrate’s memory lives on in the form of some chickens at Fulham.

Under the moniker Chicks Predict, the plucky poultry are captured on camera wandering towards one of three piles of seeds signifying either a Fulham win, a draw or a defeat.

Whichever pile they eat first then determines the result.

After three successive correct predictions, the pressure was on with Everton coming to town.

Then, after 68 seconds of egg-scrambling tension, Mark Squarkzer (we’re not making this up) made his move and predicted a draw.

And 24 hours later, Steve Sidwell’s late equaliser proved the daft clucker right.
