Brian Barwick: There was a clear benefit for England ahead of Rugby League World Cup

A SOLID month’s work ahead of next year’s Rugby League World Cup saw England go clear against France twice, as well as soundly beating Wales.

Ahead of the matches there had been some warm weather training in South Africa and it seems to me there has been a real upside in the last four weeks for England coach, Steve McNamara.

Of course, sterner tests will lie ahead of them in pursuit of World Cup glory when Australia and reigning champions, New Zealand come to these shores but at the end of a long and hard season the England team still looked energised and up for it.

With the likes of Sam Tomkins and Ryan Hall in try-scoring form and the ever-reliable captain Kevin Sinfield kicking goals for fun, England put down a marker for next year’s big showpiece event.

Can’t wait!
