West Brom and West Ham, neither of whom are exactly knee-deep in cash, look down on us like Cheshire Cats grinning at our tribulations.

Not exactly pulling up any trees are we?

So why aren’t the fans in open revolt?

Where are the ‘Rodgers Out’ banners, and the ironic chants which publicly humiliated Roy Hodgson?

After all, Hodgson had 15 points at this stage of his ill-fated reign, and was sitting in ninth place. Sure, you don’t have to look too far to find those willing to air their disgruntlement via the internet, often in the vitriolic terms that seems to be the vernacular of that medium.

And of course they’re entitled to their view, whether advocating the return of Benitez or Dalglish, or the acquisition of some foreign genius who probably wouldn’t touch us with a bargepole at present.

But by and large, Reds fans seem prepared to give this guy the benefit of the doubt, and display a patience that has not always been our hallmark, or that of any other club for that matter.

Why should this be so?

Part of this can be put down to clever PR on Rodgers’ behalf.
