EVERTON’S board have come in for deserved criticism in recent times – not least from this column – but they don’t get everything wrong.
Witness their decision to freeze season ticket prices for under-11s and under-16s for the next campaign.
For those purchasing ‘Early Bird’ tickets, it will cost only £95 for under-11s – that’s £5 per game – while under-16s tickets are from £149 for the season.
It’s a canny move. In a time of triple dip recession and a huge debate over ridiculous ticket prices at other clubs, Everton have realised that the average age of the Premier League supporters is becoming dangerously high.
Clubs are nothing without supporters and Everton readily acknowledge the need to attract the next generation.
And in that respect, the Goodison outfit are leading the way.
