I HAD the same injury as David Beckham is suffering from – so I know from bitter experience that this pretty much spells the end of his career.
I ruptured my achilles tendon and did make a recovery. But I came back as a different person and it eventually forced me to retire – and I was only 29 at the time.
Beckham will be 35 when he comes back. He might be able to handle the MLS but top class football, at international level certainly, will be beyond him now.
But he could have had this injury at 25 so he can be thankful for what the game has given him.
From England’s point of view? Well if it was Gerrard, Lampard or Rooney the nation really would be wailing.
