Moore happier with Rovers’ second-half display

Ronnie Moore

MANAGER Ronnie Moore admitted Tranmere’s showing in their second pre-season game of the summer at Heswall last night didn’t quite match up to the high standards set in the first.

Rovers’ 3-0 success over their West Cheshire League hosts at Gayton Park was comfortable enough but Moore acknowledged: “We didn’t move the ball about as well as we did in the first game at Cammell Lairds – particularly in the first half.

“I thought our final ball was a little bit disappointing tonight. We got in some great positions and did not make the most of them.

“But I think you’ve got to give a lot of credit to Heswall for that. They worked very hard, were well-organised and enthusiastic,” he added.

Moore reported that Dutch midfielder, Geert Bakker, who had played an hour-long trial at Lairds, had declined the chance to play two more games with Rovers this week and joined a Belgian club instead.

Rovers instead gave a run-out to French trialist Christian G’Hale, a winger who played 55 minutes before being replaced by double goalscorer Steve Davies.

Moore added: “I was happier with our second half display when we moved the ball quicker and took our chances when they came.”
