TRANMERE ROVERS plan to improve the senior service at Prenton Park this season, making admission to the ground easier for the over 60s.
In a new scheme, starting with Saturday’s opening League One game against Leeds, seniors (60 plus) will be able to pay at the turnstiles in the Kop Stand, John King Stand and Paddock, provided they show acceptable photo identification with proof of age.
Previously seniors had to purchase tickets in advance. Acceptable forms of identification include a valid passport, driver’s licence and travel passes.
The cash admission turnstiles for seniors are: Town Paddock No 2, Bebington Paddock 28, Kop Stand 17, 20, 22 and 27. John King Stand 10 and 13.
Chief executive Mick Horton said: “We want to make it as convenient as possible for supporters to watch games at Prenton Park and we hope our senior fans will welcome this change.”
Meanwhile, Youth coach Shaun Garnett says he has been encouraged by the performances of Tranmere’s youngsters in pre-season friendlies this summer.
Rovers kicked off with a 6-1 win over Ashville at Raby then played out a goalless draw at West Kirby.
Striker Terry Gornell scored twice in Tranmere’s 5-1 victory at Scunthorpe when Darren Morgan, Mike Blundell and Josh Macauley were also on target.
Tranmere drew 2-2 at Buckley, where Macauley and Tom Beehan were on target. They were beaten 2-0 by Huddersfield at Raby on Friday, August 3 but many of the youth squad equipped themselves well alongside the seniors in Tranmere’s 3-0 win at Vauxhall Motors last Saturday.
A ground collection organised by the Sam Bencheikh Memorial Fund will be held prior to the Leeds game.
Rovers supporters will be asked to help raise funds for a new minibus for community disabled football coaching sessions.
The Sam Bencheikh Memorial fund was set up following the death of the popular young member of Tranmere’s Football in the Community staff three years ago.
