Moore: We want Davies to sign new deal

TRANMERE manager Ronnie Moore insists he wants to keep Steve Davies at Prenton Park – but has laid contingency plans if a big-money offer takes the teenager away from Prenton Park.

Rovers say they turned down a third offer from Leeds United for Davies this week and the youngster’s immediate future will probably be resolved when the August window for permanent transfers in the Football League closes tonight.

Moore says Rovers should be able to react to a departure by recruiting another left-sided player through the loan system.

Moore said: “We are still hoping Davo will sign an extended contract with us. The ball is in the court of the player and his advisers.

“We don’t have another player like him at the club at the moment but we have been looking for a left winger since the summer and we have a lot of names.

“We would like to think things could be settled very quickly, if we need to go down that road. There are players out there that clubs are prepared to let out on loan.”
