CONSECUTIVE wins have steadied the ship after the two reverses that opened the season and such is the volatility of the table in the early weeks we find ourselves sitting in third place prior to this afternoon’s visit to face last season’s beaten play-off finalists Yeovil.
Having ground out a deserved victory last weekend against Brighton another tough game awaits with The Glovers having posted a similar set of results to Rovers and Ronnie Moore has a mini injury crisis to overcome with both Calvin Zola and Gareth Taylor unavailable to fill the target-man role up front.
Having hoped to play 4-5-1 which proved successful in last season’s victory at Huish Park, the manager has expressed doubts that we can use that formation with only Greenacre and Curran available for the lone striker role but I wonder if there may be a surprise in store with Steve Davies asked to fill the role (if he is still here!).
Despite his new duties out wide, Davies is no stranger to playing up front and having made such a confident start to the season would be unlikely to be daunted if asked to take on the task. His form has not gone un-noticed elsewhere with Leeds United making a series of bids for his services but the noises from the club seem positive and hopefully he will sign an extended deal in the near future.
On Tuesday evening the JPT commences. The Trophy provides League One and Two clubs with their most realistic route to a cup final and hopefully will see us put together a decent cup run.
Morecambe are the visitors to Prenton Park and with giant-killings at Championship clubs Preston and Wolves in the League Cup already to their name they will present a much stiffer challenge than when we faced them in a pre-season friendly.
