Shaun Garnett: We have a lot to learn

DEFENSIVE work was top of the agenda for Tranmere’s under-19s after a 2-2 draw at Wigan Athletic in the Youth Alliance.

Rovers surrendered a two-goal advantage in the Northwest Conference fixture after strikes by Terry Gornell and Josh Macauley put them on top in the first half.

Coach Shaun Garnett said: “We are a young side and naive when it comes to defending.

“We have been ahead and lost the lead on four occasions this season, so there is plenty of work to do on the training ground.

Garnett said: “You have to remember that a few months ago these boys were still at school. They are on a massive learning curve.”

Tranmere host Port Vale in an Alliance fixture at Raby Vale on Saturday, kick-off 11am.
