Keeper to rescue as reserves are held

Tranmere Res 0, Acc Stan Res 0

TRANMERE ROVERS RESERVES had to settle for a goalless draw in last night’s Pontins Holidays League Division One West clash at Prenton Park.

The visitors had the better of the first-half but Shane McWeeney in the Rovers goal made excellent saves on two occasions from Shaun Whalley while Lee McEvilly hooked a close-range shot just over.

Tranmere did not test Stanley keeper Ian Dunbavin up to half-time but came close to the lead in the 48th minute when Dunbavin did well to turn aside a power strike by Terry Gornell.

As the home side searched in vain for a winner Carl Tremarco fired just wide, Paul Henry hit the side netting and Adnan Ahmed just cleared the bar from the edge of the box.

TRANMERE ROVERS RES: McWeeney, Denson, Tremarco, Holmes Taylor, Henry, M Jones, Ahmed, Blundell, Gornell, Cresswell (Fraughan 22). Subs: Macauley, Kennedy, Richardson, G Jones.

ACCRINGTON STANLEY RES: Dunbavin, Cavanagh (Grant 57), Branch (Murphy 46), Webb, Williams, Roberts, Richardson, Carden, McEvilly, Whalley, Boco. Subs: Rodriguez, Bell, Hughes.

REFEREE: Mr S Rushton.
