Rogers delighted to take up role on the FA Council

TRANMERE Rovers chairman Lorraine Rogers adds another commitment to her busy schedule when she takes up an appointment on the Football Association Council today.

Rogers becomes one of eight Football League chairman on the Council, which includes 92 representatives from all parts of the game in England.

She said: “I’m delighted to be representing Tranmere Rovers and the Football League on the FA Council. The Football League is one of the biggest leagues in Europe and it is vital its members have a say in the running of the game.”

Rogers relinquished some of their day-to-day duties at Prenton Park this month following her appointment to a high-profile business role as chairman of the Merseyside Partnership, a quango set up to stimulate investment and tourism into the area.

She has a new role as non-executive chairman and Tranmere, with Rovers chief executive Mick Horton taking on added responsibilities at Prenton Park.

Rogers has commitments in a further five sporting, cultural or business roles.

She retains a place on the Football League board as a League One representative.

Non-executive director of the EMAP plc subsidiary that owns Radio City.

Chairman of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Society.

A trustee of National Museums Liverpool.

A director of Culture Northwest, a public body bringing together organisations in sport, media and the arts and tourism.

The FA Council includes representatives from the FA Premier League, the Football League and the county associations plus other bodies such as the Professional Footballers Association. It meets to consider major policy issues about the game.

Rogers added: “I am looking forward to receiving and wearing the traditional blazer as a member of the Council.”

Meanwhile Tranmere striker Chris Greenacre is urging supporters to rally behind the team in two important home games over the next few days.

Greenacre backs the assessment of manager Ronnie Moore, who believes Prenton Park wins over Northampton on Saturday and Crewe next Tuesday can lift Tranmere to the top of the League One table.

Greenacre said: “We are on a really good run at the moment and it’s great to be in the top two. But we want to be in the top spot and get this club promoted.

“The fans have been excellent this season and they would be good to see a few more of them helping to cheer is on. I know there are no other games on Merseyside on Saturday so this is great opportunity for people to take a first trip to Prenton Park.”

Former Tranmere manager Brian Little is being linked to the vacant manager’s position at Port Vale as well as the post at Carlisle, where a caretaker manager, Greg Abbott, is currently in place.

Martin Foyle departed the Vale Park hotseat yesterday by mutual consent.

Little has been out of the game since leaving Tranmere at the end of the 2005/06 season. He lives in the North Staffs area.
