A POINT at Cheltenham last week was not to be sniffed at even if some have chosen to see it as two points dropped and a missed opportunity to go back to the top of the division in the light of Orient’s home defeat.
We remain unbeaten on our travels and it should be recognised that last season we lost at three of the grounds we have picked points up at so far this term.
Rather than bemoan a point on the road I will be more disappointed if we fail to win our two upcoming home fixtures. Winning your home games and picking up a point away has always been the maxim for a successful team and at the moment we are point better off than that yardstick.
However the pressure is now on to make the most of home advantage today against Northampton and on Tuesday when Crewe visit.
With Leyton Orient facing two away games, two positive results in the next four days could well see us establish ourselves at the top of the league. That will be no easy task as while it maybe a bit of a cliché, there are no easy games in this division and that is testimony to the competitive balance that exists at this level.
Unlike the Premier League which only four teams can think about winning, well over half the clubs in League One have realistic dreams of success.
In that environment games will always be tight and as both theBrighton and Luton matches have shown Ronnie Moore is right to point out the crowd should remain patient if the team can’t find an early goal.
Away from home the Rovers support have been receiving plaudits from the boss for their backing of the team. Let’s hope he is saying similar things about the Prenton Park crowd in his musings next week.
