MANAGER Ronnie Moore says Tranmere Rovers have no reason to feel disappointed about hitting the road to Southend today on the back of two successive home draws.
“I think we need to be positive,” Moore said. “We are unbeaten in eight League games and we are going to Southend with a chance of going top of the table.
“We have a squad with piles and piles of character. This will be a difficult game but we are capable of beating any team in this division.”
The meeting between the sides lying third and second in the table at Roots Hall should test Tranmere’s potential to stay the course in the promotion race.
Southend, League One champions in 2005/06 but relegated after one season in the Championship, have won three out of four games at home so far.
Striker Leon Clarke looks to extend a record of scoring in five games out of five since joining the club on loan from Sheffield Wednesday at the end of August.
Tranmere expect to be without number one goalkeeper Danny Coyne for a fourth time although the Wales international is stepping up his recovery from a calf injury. Goalkeeping coach John Achterberg deputises.
Moore is likely to choose between winger Mike Jones and left-sided full-back/midfielder Carl Tremarco as a replacement for Steve Davies, who is due to undergo a cruciate ligament operation within a month.
