Fans Forum: Time to prove we are worthy tabletoppers

WOW! That League table looks pretty good doesn’t it? It’s been a long time since Tranmere went into the weekend’s fixtures top of the table; but let’s keep our feet on the ground, and not get carried away.

It’s not our League position now that matters; it’s where we are in League One next May that will ultimately count.

That said, as Ronnie points out, the first 10 games will give you a taste of how things might pan out, and with just one opening-day defeat in 10 games, clearly there is good reason for optimism.

The standard template of a promotion side is one that is a tight unit, concedes little, is rarely beaten, and can come back from adversity when things go against them. So far this season we’ve scored on all those points.

On the basis Ronnie has come up with a tactical formula which will bring us more reward on our travels than last season, it now only remains to convince the Wirral public we have what it takes to fend off the ominous challenge of Leeds, and possibly Forest.

Unfortunately, there is no getting away from the fact a point apiece from the each of last two home games was disappointing. A further indication we have yet to perform like table-toppers in front of our own, sometimes sceptical support. Over the last few years there have been so many false dawns supporters have become accustomed to failure and that has been reflected in attendance trends.

So tonight’s visit of a rejuvenated Walsall would be the perfect opportunity to put on a show worthy of table-toppers and convince the missing thousands Rovers lofty position is no fluke.
